Situated in East Devon along the River Exe, the county’s capital city Exeter is a great location from which to enjoy the perfect mix of city life meets the beautiful South West countryside and coastlines which are located just a stone’s throw away.
The city is regarded as a central base for the surrounding areas of Devon, providing the rest of this bountiful county with a wide selection of shops, restaurants and other leisure facilities as well as being a cultural, educational and medical hub; ensuring that a great many fine amenities can be accessed and enjoyed by the masses and within easy reach.
Exeter Cathedral is the city’s most iconic building; set within the heart of Exeter city centre, this ancient architectural masterpiece dates back to Norman times. A serene place to visit dotted around the cathedral is an inviting selection of cafes and restaurants; it’s a wonderful place to relax and take in the warm and welcoming surroundings.
Being a large city and serving much of the South West, there is a fantastic selection of shops to explore and enjoy in Exeter, from independent interior and jewellery shops to the most popular high street brands and with the recent Princesshay development adding over 60 shops and restaurants into the mix, you’re sure to be able to lose yourself in some retail therapy.
For those who wish to enjoy a more cultural scene, there is an impressive selection of galleries and museums to explore. The Spacex Gallery features regional works of art, national and international exhibitions and media exhibitions, whilst the Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery holds a fine art and local artist collection.
Should you wish to get out and about there are a number of outdoor activities that you can participate in, including cycling, pedal boat hire and walking. The famous Tarka Trail runs from Exeter to North Devon and much of this route can either be explored on foot or by bike.
